Just so inhumane and dangerous. Can crashes into carriage. They have them here in Seattle. I just hate them, although it sounds like NYC is particularly bad.

To the Editor: Re “ Audit Criticizes City on Care of Carriage Horses ” (news article, Sept. 6): While it’s commendable to finally see an official acknowledgment of the hideous conditions in which the carriage horses are forced to exist, the suggested remedies would just be a Band-Aid for an inherently inhumane situation.
Meat production may be cruel or inhumane, but it is not, literally, torturous. Torture is the deliberate (not merely intentional) infliction of severe pain for the purpose of (1) punishing an offender, (2) securing a confession from a criminal suspect, (3) eliciting information, or (4) gratifying the sadistic desires of the torturer.
Snakes may die during the capture and transport process, or they may be housed inhumanely in a small aquarium they can barely fit into. There is a list of human victims of captive snakes, including a 2-year-old girl who was strangled in her crib by a pet Burmese python who had escaped from its enclosure.
Most people are shocked and appalled when they first read descriptions of factory farming and learn about the horribly inhumane conditions in which the billions of animals destined for dinner tables are raised, and they are even more appalled when they first see documentary footage of the institutional cruelties inherent in factory farming.
