The Mountain Lion struck and killed by a car in Connecticut in June has been confirmed as a wild animal. Its journey originated in South Dakota, 1,500 miles to the west! The last confirmed sighting of a cougar in Connecticut was in the late 1800s.

Lion – much easier to see than an Aardvark In contrast to East Africa, encounters with mammals while out birding in Europe are relatively few. Secretarybirds counter this by being very careful when killing snakes and ensuring that the prey is dead before eating it. Sometimes they will pick up other prey and, aided by their incredible height, they will kill the prey by repeatedly dropping it on hard ground. Watching them hunt is fascinating.
