Alabama Man Pleads Guilty to Killing Protected Birds

Alexander Alvarez of Atmore, Alabama, has pled guilty to “killing migratory birds and selling the feathers on the black market” in a killing spree that dates back to 2006. It’s nice to see laws against killing birds and selling their feathers enforced.

AHS updates heartworm guidelines for dogs

The revised guidelines now recommend both Food and Drug Administration (FDA)–approved isoxazolines and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)–approved mosquito repellent products to kill mosquitoes and help prevent the spread of heartworms. Previously, only EPA-approved products were recommended.

This is after two years of geese killings in New York City , ostensibly to thin the flocks and protect civilian aviation. Anyone want to bet that they double down and start killing more geese? This morning a plane taking off from LaGuardia Airport in New York City hit a bird , which caused engine failure.

Snowy Owls Being Shot at JFK Airport

The agency that oversees the city’s airports has added the majestic snowy owl to the list of birds it kills to protect airplanes from bird strikes. The Port Authority’s “wildlife specialists” started exterminating the owls Saturday, killing three at JFK Airport with a shotgun, a Port Authority source said.

It really is just too damn dangerous to go there without protection if you’re holding a pair of binoculars, looking like a non-local, and driving up back roads obviously looking for birds. There are also hunters in Cyprus, which are an entirely different situation.
