According to Reuters: Japan, which considers whaling to be a cherished cultural tradition, killed 679 minke whales despite plans to catch around 850. Peaceful protests were ignored, as well. Home protests were ignored also. This year's carnage in the Antarctic was measurably smaller due to the interference of Sea Shepherd.

Perhaps Latimer should read some of Responsible Policies for Animals ' literature (like Factsheet #4 , about deer kills and ecosystems). First of all, does he really believe that piffle? What on earth would even give him that idea?

I understand the impulse to do " something " that alters the number of animals created to be used and killed and the suffering of the ones created. 3) They disagree with me, not about sentience, but about some god putting animals here for us, or some other reason why we can kill animals even though their sentient.

Some people think it’s just plain fun to kill enormous numbers of animals and pile up their bodies, and when there’s no “bag limit” it’s legal to do so. Obviously killing contests have nothing to do with traditional hunting, and “animal abuse” is normally used when describing domestic animals.

The animal rights movement is (rightly) closely associated with protesting things like factory farming, dogfighting, etc…basically, the mistreatment of animals. Yes, of course it is too bad that so many animals (most often rats, mice and rabbits) have to be killed. This makes perfect sense. The logic of this is ridiculous.

of Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Jon Gassett has indicated that if enough people write in protest, the proposed hunting season–due to start this December– will be reconsidered. Kills in Canada, Alaska and Mexico are not included in the count. Kentucky Dept. Tennessee found that out in January. But is this for real?
