As she continued her monologue about these cats, the Wildcat cautiously walked in our direction, never taking its eyes off of us, stiff-legged, ears motionless, striped like a standard “tiger” domestic cat but entirely in grays. He also had tigers, cougars, and some other animals. We estimate that free-ranging domestic cats kill 1.4–3.7

It’s all very well to advocate the should that tigers should not be poached from a reserve in India. The tigers keep wandering out of their reserve and taking cattle from nearby villages, taking what little these already poor people have. Perhaps it would be better to move the tigers to that bigger reserve, or maybe a zoo.

If I were to describe my long time wildlife nemesis, my ultimate dip of dips, I would reach for a nemesis cat, not a nemesis bird. Most gallingly of all, I had actually stood next to someone that saw one, jumping into a tree to escape a Tiger of all things, and failed to see it. One of the great wildlife encounters in my life.

Due to the Ganges floods, their planned weekend of sailing through the labyrinth of channels turned into a week-long stay among about 270 Tigers , according to the 2011 census – the last population inhabiting mangroves and one of the highest concentrations anywhere on the planet!
