Kitten Rescue is a wonderful animal rescue organization! They have had truly great success in finding loving new homes for unwanted cats and kittens. Kitten Rescue volunteers place approximately 1,000 cats and kittens into new homes every year. Kitten Rescue’s goal is to help Los Angeles become a no-kill city.

Presumably, the parents of black drongo chicks sometimes meet with Red-billed Starlings to sympathize with each other about the challenges of raising chicks these days. Black Drongos must be breeding here – this juvenile was terrorizing his parents with constant calls for food.

Ferret 492 — a black-footed ferret, Mustela nigripes — raises her head from a black-tailed prairie dog’s burrow, sniffs the April night. The ferret raises her head again — up periscope — and hesitates. No coyotes in sight right now, the Great Horned Owls are off in the cottonwoods closer to the river.

The group is called Second Acts , and though they don’t rescue animals themselves, they raise funds to help smaller rescue groups continue their good work for animals. This adorable kitten is just one of many pets who have found a forever home thanks to the work Second Acts does.

From the better late then never category, the ALDF is having a National Justice for Animals Week to raise awareness about animal abuse. They sent me an email on the 21st, but I just got around to reading about it. Adam survived third-degree burns on 45% of his body and the case grabbed headlines around the world.
