Some time ago a neighborhood stray cat came to the yard to have her kittens. This little mama cat was super smart and found her way into the hot tub, and here are her little kittens snuggled up in a flower pot. We tried to find a rescue group to take the little family so they could hopefully find a loving home.

Caring for the homeless cat population in Los Angeles, FixNation , offers free spay and neuter services to caregivers of community cats. The group, founded in 2007, also provides a free, full-time spay and neuter clinic for homeless stray and feral cats, plus low-cost, spay and neuter services for tame pet cats.

Mammary gland tumors are common in dogs and cats, especially those that aren’t spayed or were spayed late in age. Dogs: • 25% (1 in 4) of un-spayed female dogs will get mammary cancer. When taking the issue to simplest common denominator, spaying/neutering is essentially exercising human dominance over non-human animals. But my stance is also categorized under Gray Matters because, in my perfect world, we wouldn't be spaying or neutering anybody.

The mascot for this year’s National Justice for Animals Week is Adam, a spunky black cat who was set on fire by two teenage girls in a vicious attack in Santa Rosa, California, as an eight-week-old feral kitten. Adam survived third-degree burns on 45% of his body and the case grabbed headlines around the world.

Most shelter animals are spayed or neutered, have been treated for worms, and have at least their first set of shots. If you’re not willing to go through the trials of house-training a young puppy or kitten, opting for an older shelter animal is an easy option.
