What is truly remarkable is that our quarry was a newly discovered species of leopard frog. It is possible that this migrant has moved on so I headed the short distance to a local rural road, Leopard Drive, where we always find a variety of raptors as well as Horned Larks and occasionally Lapland Longspurs. v=7cFKUm5lPpM On the way out Leopard Road, I stopped to take a closer look at the Horned Larks ( Eremophila alpestris ).
Remarkably, this growing colony suffered severe losses from a leopard that habitually came down from the mountains to feast on the easy penguin snacks. In recent years on two subsequent December nights, this single leopard killed 65 penguins, only feasting on a small percentage of the carcasses.

For you and me, there are about 200 bird species, but for proper tourists, there seem to be only five species in the reserve: Bengal Tiger , Leopard , Sloth Bear , Indian Wild Dog (Dhole) and the Gaur. One of them has a scarred shoulder, claw marks, but not big enough for Tiger – probably a Leopard.
It’s the only park I have ever been to that not only have I seen all five of the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, African Buffalo, White Rhino and African Elephant) in, but seen them all on the same day. Leopards are also awesome and I saw two at Madikwe. Having been to some other parks in Africa, it’s an improvement.
In Rajasthan we stay in a beautiful tented camp in the desert where you have a very high chance of seeing leopards. On night drives here looking for Eurasian Eagle Owl and nightjars you have a very good chance of seeing Striped Hyena.
