A marsh littered with garbage will still provide refuge for a bittern, considering in many places most wetlands simply don’t exist any more. Townsend’s Warbler in a busy city park.

In simplest terms it is where the landfast ice meets the open ocean, and it is a magnet for wildlife, especially in the 24 hour light of the Arctic spring. Wildlife concentrates at the Floe Edge, and although we just missed Narwhal as pack ice moved in just after we arrived, the place was littered with Polar Bear.

Berry Springs Nature Reserve and Darwin River Dam

Last Saturday we were able to visit Berry Springs Nature Reserve late in the afternoon, which is located to the south of Darwin and alongside the Territory Wildlife Park. The wildlife park is actually going to be 25 years old next month and will have free entry to celebrate. Or I could rename this post… CROCODILES and SNAKES!
