The Baobab-studded woodlands and wetlands of the park harbor over 550 bird species and they sure come thick and fast!

This color also describes minivets, starlings, and thrush-tanagers, as well as the bill of a particular pochard, the face of a sweet little lovebird, and the patch and throat of a bush-shrike and longclaw respectively. Research published in Nature examines colors across species and genders. It suggests that the more monogamous a species is, the more colorful its females tend to be. But then again, we’re not quite lovebirds. On the other hand, lady passerines might sing of how their appearance reflects their mating habits.

Geographic patterns of species richness for birds (1,558 species) in East Africa at 0.25° resolution (blue indicates low species richness, while brown indicates high species richness).
