Its amazing to me that there are still places on earth where wildlife is blissfully unafraid of humans. It comes as no surprise that this was one of Jacques Cousteau’s favorite places and he filmed the area and its wildlife extensively for his tv series. The island is half a mile wide and about three-quarters of a mile in length.

I think a lot of people know that climate change is not a positive thing, but do they know whats in it for wildlife? The EPA speculates that there will be a global sea level rise of 2 feet from the current sea level by the year 2100, which will have huge impacts on our coastlines for both people and wildlife. Whats in it for birds?

Just offshore is the Kaikoura Canyon, a marine crevasse that means you can quickly pass over water that is a thousand metres deep. This makes the waters massively productive, which attracts fishermen and marine life close to the shore, where it can be watched without hours spent reaching the continental shelf.

Photo by US Fish and Wildlife. That last bit of knowledge was shared by a pilot with a gift for understatement. The Dry Tortugas National Park , seven bits of lands comprised of coral and sand, is home to seven nesting avian species, 40 winter visitors, and 250+ fly-through bird species during spring and fall migrations. Washington wildlife officials say eight sea lions have been found dead in the Puget Sound region in recent weeks — all apparently shot. KING-TV reports that both the state Department of Fish and Wildlife and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are investigating the deaths.

The World Wildlife Fund has reported that dolphins and other marine life have been swimming around in an oil spill off the coast of Australia. Tags: australia dolphin oil spill marine life. There have not been many deaths yet, but the toxicity could lead to long-term health effects for the animals.
