The protest happened on Wednesday. Tags: animal testing animal cruelty military pigs medical research PETA. I'm late on this one. But it's worth noting that someone out there took some action on this gruesome story. And that's what I like about PETA and why I recently became a member for the first time.
This protest comes after an undercover PETA investigator collected evidence of alleged animal abuse in the University laboratories. Tags: animal research utah medical research PETA.
In order to minimize handling, any sort of medical treatment needed is done then, as well. When some birds start to feel better, they stay mellow and allow you to do what you have to do without much protest. When birds are down and out, this is not a problem. Others, not so much.
From the press release: “To characterize protest and speech as terrorist activities is ludicrous,” said Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) cooperating attorney Matthew Strugar. The AETA is so broad and unclear it could be used to suppress lawful protests and boycotts by any activists across the spectrum, no matter what the issue.
But many researchers - although adamant that animal research remains critical to finding cures and expanding medical knowledge - have come to concede that using creatures as human stand-ins is unnecessary for many procedures. Plus, animals are messy, require feeding and constant care, draw protests, and, yes, can be a bit smelly.
This could be read as anything from a lab conducting medical research on monkeys to a gas station that sells beef jerky. If you and a friend GO ON THE WEB AND RESEARCH THE COMPANY whose practices you plan to protest, you may have just become a terrorist.
