From Alex: “A friend came to me yesterday who had saved a puppy off the street (see photo). I volunteer for a local animal rescue so I took the dog off her hands, but since this dog hasn’t had medical care, he can’t yet be housed in a shelter as it could put both him and the other animals at risk.

For kittens and puppies, most any time is play time. Older pets still need love and attention, but they don’t require babysitting like a frisky puppy or curious kitten. Some older pets have special medical needs, but after all they’ve given us through the years, it’s an honor to take care of them in return. Laid-back lifestyle.

Some people are seeking purebred animals or puppies and think these are not available in shelters. Often these puppies or kittens are not placed in homes, and end up in the shelter. Puppies are great but often people are much happier getting a dog who is older, and whose size and temperament is a known quantity.
