Roadside Birding and Flathead Lake

Though the climate of the area is described as mild, this needs to be understood in Montana terms. Mammals were mostly represented by Mule Deer and a handful of debatable Elk. Alas, my hoped-for Tundra Swan did not materialize despite the proximity of Swan River National Wildlife Refuge.

Visitors on the Range

Besides the American bison that the refuge was founded to protect, there are pronghorns, elk, bighorn sheep, mule and white-tailed deer, and black bears.
