Sage Grouse — The Other Kind of Listing

A week ago today, the federal government proposed a “threatened” listing for the Greater Sage Grouse in Nevada and California , as part of a larger study considering whether the species as a whole should be listed. I am a great lover of these gallinaceous birds, though my encounters with them have been but brief.

Birding Santiago de Chile – Trip Report

Finally we went past the Yerba Loca (National Park) entrance and then to the first road split which goes to Sierra Nevada Valley, to the right and to Farellones town to the left. From here we drove back down to take the road to Sierra Nevada Valley. We could see the towers and wires for the chair lifts in many places.

The wonderful Phainopepla

Spring is in the air, and all around the Baja desert I am seeing a plethora of species, all looking for love, in what appears to the right places. They frequent the dry, hot desert areas, which includes Arizona, Nevada and central mainland Mexico. I thoroughly enjoyed watching them swoop erratically from tree to tree to cactus.
