New York City is well known as a city of immigrants so it makes sense that the only lizards living within the five boroughs are immigrants as well. The best bet for finding either species is to get into the proper habitat on a sunny day and to watch for them sunning themselves on rocks or gravel.

What is there to say about a Mountain Bluebird , a bird of the west, of high elevation grasslands, of the Rocky Mountains, in New York State? Mountain Bluebird was my 372nd species of the year , my 478th ABA-area bird , and my 1,048th life bird. I did see it poop four times so it must have been getting something to eat!

They were: Audubon’s Shearwater – This is the last regularly occurring shearwater in New York State that I had yet to ever lay eyes on. We had three species of storm-petrel keeping us busy: Wilson’s Storm-Petrel , Band-rumped Storm-Petrel , and Leach’s Storm-Petrel. a beautiful dawn sky. And what birds!

The Great Vly is wonderful wetland that straddles the border of Ulster and Green Counties in New York State’s Hudson Valley. I had no luck with the rails or bitterns but I did manage to see quite a few species, including some that were very cooperative. Red-winged Blackbird singing at the Great Vly.
