Parrots captivate me more than any other bird family. For one, they are remarkably diverse with a little over 380 species spread over every continent except Europe (only introduced) and Antarctica. There seems to be a parrot for almost any ecological situation. No other region in Brazil has so many parrots as the Amazon.

My second lifer this trip was a migratory Yellow-throated Warbler , a species I could not hope to see my previous trip, which had occurred in early summer. The day was only minutes old and we already had 32 species on the day list. Our agave flower stalk had three species of hummingbird drinking nectar, dive-bombing and stabbing each other: Blue-throated Mountain-gem, Lucifer Hummingbird and Broad-tailed Hummingbird. Our main goal here was the Maroon-fronted Parrot. It was amazing.
