One reason it is so widely disliked is its ubiquity, another is the fact that it is an introduced species. It is accused of driving native species out and it has the protection of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act withheld from it. The species I refer to is, of course, the House Sparrow Passer domesticus.

Situated well off the beaten track and at the end of long, bumpy roads, Cangreja National Park is one of the less frequently visited protected areas in Costa Rica. Mottled Owls , one of the more common owl species in Costa Rica, also called in the distance and the vocalizations of a Common Pauraque were added to the natural mix.

If you doubt the spikes I am referring to then do not fear! Spikes in bushes protect Star Finch from predators. Star Finch are another bird species which is in aviaries, but despite the frustration of not being able to get good photographs due to spikes I would much rather see them in the wild any day.
