I discovered that they nest on Protection Island, which is off the northeastern coast of the Olympic Peninsula, just west of Port Townsend, in the Juan de Fuca Strait near where it meets Puget Sound. Protection Island and Mt. The second obstacle was to find a specific location where Fratercula cirrhata is regularly seen.

They look crap but presumably offer some protection for the chicks, though not from each other (see the murderous activities within the nests in my previous post ). Tiphys died either of a snakebite or of a mysterious illness but he was not killed by either a tiger or a rhinoceros. Lucky him, right? Though he ended up dead anyway.
