I admit I haven't been paying attention to what has been going on with the Japanese whaling fleet. The same could be said for any policeman and Sea Shepherd is not down here to protest whaling, we are down here to obstruct illegal whaling as defined under international conservation law.

According to Reuters: Japan, which considers whaling to be a cherished cultural tradition, killed 679 minke whales despite plans to catch around 850. It caught just one fin whale compared with a target of 50 in the hunt that began in November. Peaceful protests were ignored, as well. Home protests were ignored also.

The animal rights movement is (rightly) closely associated with protesting things like factory farming, dogfighting, etc…basically, the mistreatment of animals. The simple fact is this; by protesting the removal of harmful non-native species, they are supporting the unnecessary deaths and even extinction of many species.
