The load included 173 bear paws, one python skin and the carcass of a pangolin — a type of sticky-tongued, toothless, nocturnal anteater that is a menu item in southern China. I suppose it shows they are making some effort , but it's still a huge problem.

And now for something completely different (Monty Python): It seems birds are generally quite adept at matching their plumage color with the plastic objects around them. My possible birdwatching highlight this month was Short-eared Owl at Fengxian. Despite (or because of) its slightly anti-German tone, this owl video is worth seeing.

Maybe I should have stuck with the classic Monty Python “And now for something completely different” … While Black Drongos usually feed during the daytime, some have apparently shifted their working hours to make use of electric light which attracts insects ( source ). How is that for a pointless link between species?

I am not sure what kind of snake it was but I think it was a harmless python. I think that perhaps one of the birds would hit the snake, causing it to twitch, which would make the other think there was some life left in it.

We saw three snakes in two days and one was a very large Black-headed Python moving across the highway as we were unable to slow down sufficiently to photograph it. Cattle can be anywhere! Of course another danger is the presence of snakes and crocodiles!

The other snake was a Carpet Python lying on the trail at Kondalilla Falls. It suddenly appeared behind me as I watched birds come in for an early morning drink and Grant slammed a car door and it then turned. I was not even thinking of photographing it, but how much better it would be further away.
