I’d never heard raccoons make that particular weird noise before, but that was my best guess as to what it was. I was a bit sad, too, that we had annoyed the owl enough that it felt it had to strafe us … my normal MO is to avoid stressing out wildlife. This is an area where people really respect the wildlife and I can’t imagine that someone would’ve done that. We also have other animals like raccoons muskrats and turkeys but i really don’t think they would’ve been involved. But it seemed like a really clean cut more or less right in its middle. We do have a possum and a raccoon that live somewhere on the property. I'm not out in the country either (despite the wildlife.) I have never once seen a cat anywhere in my neighborhood. or even this city for that matter. None of my neighbors have cats and I'm only aware of one dog owner blocks away.
