The reptiles in Parque Tomás Garrido were of the crocodilian variety. I’m happy to say that the ones right on the other side of a low wall were not so large. Parque la Pólvora was crawling, literally, with small and large, rather prehistoric-looking, iguanas. I liked their attitude. Some were quite large.

African Spoonbills seem unfazed by large reptiles. I have occasionally bemoaned the lack of creativity in bird names before, so you would be right to guess that the name of the other species in this genus is Northern White-crowned Shrike. Most likely, the devil, not god created this species. I guess you just get used to them with time.

It isn’t just the birds that seek the higher ground, but also the reptiles. A Red-backed Fairywren was calling from the top of a bush and to the right a dragonfly clung to a branch. We encountered five goannas that had found the higher ground by swimming and then stood up on their hind legs to assess the situation!
