Birding the Battlefields

It’s a real shame, though, because these battlefields can be a real haven for wildlife and are often located in parts of the country that don’t otherwise have a lot of preserved land. Kestrel , Northern Harrier , Great Blue Heron , and Wild Turkey. The lovely ladies of the MD Ornithological Society (with me in tow!)

So does this guy: Images by Jesse Achtenberg, courtesy of the National Fish and Wildlife Service. To my disappointment the biggest and most visible species I saw was the introduced Common (Ring-necked) Pheasant , and my first lifer was the equally introduced Gray Partridge.
