The sealers must now feel the seal's cranium to make sure it is broken.

PETA has launched a spoof site for the Vancouver Olympic Games over seal hunting. I hate the seal slaughter. Seal hunting is just plain wrong. Warning, they have video of seal clubbing (and it starts automatically when you go to the site). I criticize PETA a lot, but in this case I think they are right on the money.

Some of the damage was caused by humans who shot, clubbed or threw so-called seal bombs at the mammals. The explosives are tossed into the water to scare away seals from fishing areas. Even though it has been a record year for sick harbor seals, sea lions and elephant seals, experts say it could get much worse.

In order to offset the loss of the seal product market in Europe, Canada has made a deal with China. I'm not surprised. China as a whole still doesn't have a national conscience about these issues. Although 40 Chinese animal rights groups have protested, they don't really have any political or financial clout to change anything.

Thanks to it’s marine canyon it’s the place to see Sperm Whales, swim with Dusky Dolphins and New Zealand Fur-seals, and watch albatrosses, shearwaters and petrels. The rocks here are particularly good for New Zealand Fur-seals, but we also saw Variable Oystercatchers , Black-fronted Terns, Caspian Terns , White-fronted Terns, Red-billed Gulls and Kelp Gulls. Finally in 1799, the first visitors on this volcanic land were a group of French seal hunters who were after the fur seals that can be found hauled out on the beaches for fur and oil, which almost wiped out the local population of the species. None of the three voyagers made landfall due to poor weather and dangerous conditions.

The road was under water in three sections and the Masked Lapwings and Black-winged Stilts were using the clarity of the water over the sealed road and the lack of hiding places to their advantage.
