The end of this rather long road trip finds us here in Puyallup, Washington which is just south of Seattle. This refuge came up as #4 on a recent list of the top 25 National Wildlife Refuges that were featured in a great story here by 10000 Birds own Jason Crotty.

We arrived in Seattle 6 days ago, at 12:30 in the morning, after being on the road, in one form or another since February 1st. We were able to find a very nice RV park, just a couple of miles from one of my all time favourite birding hotspots, Billy Frank Jr, Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. Back in the US of A!

Washington wildlife officials say eight sea lions have been found dead in the Puget Sound region in recent weeks — all apparently shot. KING-TV reports that both the state Department of Fish and Wildlife and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are investigating the deaths.

Rabbit Meadows is a rescue group out of Seattle. We’ve subsequently rescued feral rabbit populations from Rocky Reach Dam in Wenatchee, Seattle’s Woodland Park, and the Aqua Barn of Kent, insuring each rabbit a safe haven to live out the rest of their life at Rabbit meadows without threat of harm.

From the Seattle PI. Fish and Wildlife Service granted a permit March 9 to the Northern Arapaho Tribe allowing it either to kill or capture and release two bald eagles this year.

We will cover nearly 3000 miles driving before we reach Seattle, and our final stop. We had already planned on at least one night in Eugene, and spending a day at Fern Ridge Wildlife Area.
