There is a wonderful site called UAE Birding , that makes a great reference once you have decided how much time you have to spare and it carries a list of part-time guides who may be able to show you around. My personal list for Safa Park runs to 40+, but upwards of 200 species have been recorded here over the years.

It feels like spring….

Do try and get it right) is found from the Canary Islands to India; in the Middle East it is found in oases and dry barely vegetated wadis like the one I saw them in, in the drier areas of Syria, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, UAE and Iran. A whole bunch coming for a drink.

The most valuable site I found was UAE Birding , an excellent site full of location guides, recent sightings, and a busy forum where its members discuss all aspects of birdiness in the area. The location was a good spot to see Arabian Oryx, a species I hoped to see but didn’t. So there would be some birding.

Collaborative List – July 2019

During July, 11 beats birded 11 countries (USA, UK, Australia, Spain, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Japan, UAE, Mexico, China and Saudi Arabia) and submitted 82 checklists. They accounted for 562 species at this sluggish time of year. The year list has moved forward to 1962 and the life list has leapt forward to 3759. These are the numbers.
