The summer issue had a good article about walruses. Surprisingly, they are overlooked in discussions of Arctic species threatened by global warming. Very depressing sometimes though. We tend to talk about penguins and polar bears, but these guys are important too. Luckily, I found the article online.
Spotting 57 species of birds in the couple of hours we put in to seeking out birds was never so ho-hum in my life. One final stop at a popular park in Queens netted us another nesting species that we only found because they can’t fly yet, Great Horned Owlets. So-so looks at a brown swallow. How exciting. Of course it did.
Sometimes it’s a dignified depiction of a local species with some significance to the producer – especially when it comes to wineries, who are always eager to advertise their sense of place and a deep connection between the land and their product.
