The White-tailed Antelope Squirrel , sometimes referred to as the White-tailed Ground Squirrel or the Antelope Chipmunk , is the rare diurnal mammal in the deserts of the southwestern United States. White-tailed Antelope Squirrels are endearing little squirrels and it is well worth making their acquaintance.

However, the rasping call of a Squirrel Cuckoo got our attention. A few minutes later, some movement a few metres above this bird gave away the presence of a second Squirrel Cuckoo. Squirrel Cuckoo. Naturally, once I picked my camera up, it hopped behind some leaves. White-shouldered Tanager. Blue Dacnis.

The day started out with some typical monsoon-season cloudiness, so my first photos suffered a bit from low lighting. Once I moved to the riverbank, I got to see something else I had never seen before: a Squirrel Cuckoo , drying itself after a good bath. One allowed me to get almost embarassingly close.

I previously wrote about patents for birdseed feeders , particularly ones directed to problems with squirrel “marauders.” This latter style suffers from the problem that it must be refilled very often, because the level of food is constantly being reduced by the feeding.

In Bergman's study, according to Discovery News, 18 to 28 squirrel monkeys would be subjected to radiation and periodically tested to gauge how exposure affects performance in a variety of learned tasks. If we are going to subject animals to great suffering (radiation for heaven's sake), don't let it be for something like this.

The sharp strings are a menace to passing birds – especially kites and other raptors – who cannot see them and sometimes suffer grievous, if not fatal, wounds. Unwilling to leave the suffering birds to die, they began bringing them home, asking veterinarians to make house calls, and keeping the recuperating birds on their roof.
