SeaWorld aquarist Jenny Albert covers up a “cold stunned” endangered green turtle to keep the animal warm at SeaWorld’s Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. This influx of turtles gives the park’s Sea Turtle Rescue Program more than 1,000 turtles rescued since its inception in 1980. The SeaWorld team does great work!

We have a real love of turtles, so it is always great to hear of people helping care for them. Recently the SeaWorld Orlando animal rescue team received two hawksbill turtle hatchlings that were about two months old. This turtle was covered with algae and fauna, as seen in the photo.

Normally there is four-wheel drive access along a section of Cable Beach, but the Shire in recent years acknowledged that the flatback turtles needed help to survive. Originally the beach access was closed for a few hours each side of the biggest tides and then four-wheel drives would hopefully not drive or park on nest sites.

A Flatback Turtle was just returning to the sea after spending most of the night nesting above the high tide mark. This is the first record of a Flatback Turtle nesting on Cable Beach this season and the nest will hatch out in due course without the large female Flatback Turtle returning to shore. Pied Oystercatchers feeding Pied Oystercatcher investigates three sea cucumbers Before we ventured out onto the reef we came across a Hawksbill Turtle that had stranded on the beach and it had lost part of one of its rear flippers at some stage. We helped it out and returned it to the reef, so hopefully it will be OK.

200 metres / 650 feet lower, amid fields, hedges and rivers, I was surrounded by Eurasian Golden Orioles , Common Nightingales , even a few threatened European Turtle Doves. Bird therapy? I was getting up early and making quite a mileage on dirt tracks, spending entire days outdoors, getting tired in a good way.

This dove shares a distinguishing mark, a black collar around the nape that does not extend all the way around the neck, with the Ringed Turtle-Dove. Now the bird has been spotted in 22 US states and shows no sign of stopping. Not bad for a non-migratory bird! However, the Eurasian dove is much larger.

Key West Wildlife Center takes mostly birds, but will rescue mammals, marine mammals, and both land and sea turtles as well. They kept the hawk for a few days, as he was weak and dehydrated from migration, then released him as well. Last year, 4,000 young Peregrine Falcons swept through the Keys on their way north.

We encountered one crossing the road in 2012, but with the cooler weather this year there was less turtle activity. Eastern Long-necked Turtle.
