Here in New York State Snowy Owls have been reported in more than ten counties, with most of those counties having birds being seen in multiple locations.

In April 2022, the Collaborative submitted 216 checklists from 4 countries ( Costa Rica , UnitedStates , Mexico , and the United Kingdom ) and observed 735 species. The United Kingdom ranks sixteenth on the Collaborative’s country list with 211 species observed.
In February 2022, the Collaborative submitted 127 checklists in 7 countries ( Costa Rica , UnitedStates , Mexico , Trinidad and Tobago , United Kingdom , and Serbia ). The 2022 year list stands at 888 and the life list is now at 4,112.
There are Vast Amounts of Federal Land Approximately 28% of the entire land area of the UnitedStates is federal land , about 640 million acres. However, federal land is not evenly distributed within the UnitedStates. On a state-by-state basis, that percentage increases dramatically as one moves from east to west.

Perhaps for those of us in the northeastern UnitedStates the number of birds this weekend has been a bit of a disappoint though.

July: 81 checklists and 318 species. August: 54 checklists and 195 species. September: 82 checklists and 259 species.
The end of January is a cold time for those of us who live in the northeastern UnitedStates. This past January I had the great pleasure of temporarily escaping winter by going to the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival.
Citizens of other nations may live differently, but we in the UnitedStates enjoy a preponderance of long weekends. Keep your eyes to the skies for your national bird, long may it soar! That must be why this is the greatest nation on earth, right? We’re great for lots of reasons, but long weekends help a lot.
