We have a request, and it's an issue I've written about a handful of times but never had this particular question answered by readers: How do you talk with your vet--who is against feeding your dog vegan food--about your choice to do so? I'm fortunate to have a regular (non-specialist) vet who has no problem at all with a vegan diet for dogs.

The vet did give me a hard time about the dogs' animal-free diets (my traditional vets don't, ironically), and my response was that unless she could show me some research that his particular type of injury needs animal protein to heal, I wasn't going to change anything. been there.

For these reasons, my vet had no problem with me stockpiling Vetsulin. Also a relief is that I tried Nature's Recipe vegetarian dog food for Charles, and there's something about the ingredients (soybean meal is the 2nd ingredient--and Natural Balance doesn't have soy--maybe that's it) that he responds well to. What a relief!
