APHIS receives funding to address multi-state rabies outbreaks

Wildlife rabies outbreaks in Alabama, Maine, and Vermont have prompted the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to approve nearly $19 million in emergency funding. The money will be used to manage rabies in six emerging areas that have an elevated risk for rabies spread.

Ferruginous Hawk in Vermont?

John certainly seems to know his birds and he describes a Ferruginous Hawk well but seeing one in Vermont would be beyond absolutely amazing and buteos are known to have a variety of plumages. Snow Geese at Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area

Vermont’s Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area was the first place I saw huge numbers of Snow Geese so I was pleased to stumble across this post on VTDigger and see that the birds are still showing up there. If you live in northern New York or Vermont it is well worth a visit!

Birds Taking Over TV Screens

To wit: A lingering Snowy Owl plopped down right outside a television news station in Vermont. After watching the three-eyed ravens on Game of Thrones , it seems some other members of the bird kingdom want a piece of the small-screen action. The BBC’s Winged Planet and Earthflight programs are now available on DVD.
