Mexico's first "anti-bullfighting" town has signed a petition calling on the United Nations to approve a universal declaration on animalwelfare. Teocelo, a town of 15,000 inhabitants, last month became the first Mexican municipality to ban bullfighting and other events that involve animal mistreatment or cruelty.
Sadly, the situation in Puerto Rico is replicated in countries around the world where hundreds of millions of dogs live as strays, abandoned by the humans they have come to depend on for food, shelter and companionship. As one animal advocate put it, “we need to work together and keep the finger in the side of government.”
