Most people are familiar with Wood Ducks nesting in tree cavities but Common and Hooded Mergansers, Barrow’s and Common Goldeneyes and Buffleheads ( Bucephala albeola ) are also cavity nesters. This usually occurs in the morning, within 36 hours after hatching.
