The diversity of migrants isn’t as high as in the eastern USA and Canada, but we do get nice numbers of Blackburnians, Black-and-whites, Wilson’s Warblers , and, believe it or not, Cerulean Warblers. I saw some of them this week and am finally hearing the buzzy call notes of Dickcissels as they migrate overhead during the night.

Barnacle Goose is my choice for the next bird, because we discovered one lone bird among all of the hundreds of Canada Geese , Greylag Geese and Eurasian Wigeon at Freiston Shore and it was as if it was a test to see if we would notice “the odd one out”! all three of the Greater White-fronted Geese we spotted with a bunch of Canada Geese. We were surprised to see three Greater White-fronted Geese there as well, amid the hundreds of Canada Geese , but they turned out to be the three that we had just seen. It really has been a great winter to see both species in New York.
