Famous ornithologist Ted Parker crashed into a mountain in Ecuador while surveying birds. Having learned from my Namibian experience I walked away briskly. I described what I had done, and she happily started ticking every possible test for every possible tropical disease on her little lab sheet – from bubonic plague to yaws.
