Which tours saw the most roosting owls? This odd nocturnal creature is around the same size as a Barred Owl. I savor the timeless experience of scanning these tropical waves for storm-petrels and lost jaegers. 1) Dusky Eagle-Owl. But the best was when we were gathering at the gatehouse to leave (many of us still taking Taj selfies) and a sister birder casually asked if I’d seen the Dusky Eagle-Owl. There is no experience comparable to birding a dump, and, I have to say, I have never experienced a dump like this one. Bring on 2017!

I was ecstatic when we found two giraffes by the side of the road “necking”, which I found out is a male test of strength and dominance, not a romantic entanglement. This immature Verreaux’s Eagle-owl was one of the first birds I saw at Kruger, on the introductory afternoon ride through the park.

In an interesting experiment featuring a stuffed model of a Collared Scops Owl , Crested Goshawks arrived when hearing the mobbing call of Light-vented Bulbuls that they use when encountering such a scops owl, but not when hearing other mobbing calls. And the female, as usual going for a more casual look.
