They were still listed as Endangered, but wildlife management measures taken in this park were clearly working. For long it was assumed that the saplings cannot survive being under water half a year, from spring to August, but recently another theory was tested. Someone should tell the police who is actually paying them.

Black-bellied Whistling-Duck , 11 July, Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, Queens, New York (2nd Queens sighting). Then we relocated to a spot where people were seeing several and arrived just in time to see the last one present get snatched by a Peregrine Falcon. Doug found this bird while my whole family was sick with COVID.
