My Top Ten Birds of 2016 (or, Let’s Remember the Good Things about 2016)

I started the year in Florida, traveled to India with the ABA in February, combined family and birding in an August trip to California, and in-between saw very good birds in New York and New Jersey. I was thrilled to see many of these gorgeous birds at the fort at Ranthambore NP, India. It was a good birding year.

Birding crème de la crème: Asia – Corbett to Taman Negara

I bought a new rucksack yesterday and the first thing I checked when I brought it home was, how easily my spotting scope with a mounted window clamp fits in – test passed with flying colours. Knowing that there are reserves with long lists of 600 or more species, I set my threshold at more than 600 birds… and found only a few such hotspots.

Then we are both hopeless … Anyway, the paper tests whether small roads in a forest are a hindrance to birds – are they reluctant to cross?

Our Best Birds of 2020

The Black Kite ( Milvus migrans ) is ubiquitous as a scavenger across the whole of India, often seen by the hundred wheeling over towns. As a bittersweet afterthought, it was also the last bird I photographed in India before losing my sponsored travel opportunities. Clare (and Grant!) How cool is that? Short fall, soft landing.
