Flex is a handsome, neutered male, red fawn greyhound (currently under 60 pounds). He has been vetted and is healing nicely. Tags: Activism Current Affairs Greyhound Matters. Dogs they can not place in foster care or find adoptive homes for are euthanized after 14 days by county ordinance. Their shelter is full.
This is my darling 83-pound red fawn greyhound, Charles Hobson Booger, III who has been lame for about a year. He has taken to ripping up any paper in sight and lunging at every dog except his greyhound friends on our walks. But he can walk in a lagoon or in a calm ocean, in chest-deep water, says Dr. Newest Vet. Viva la Emme!
And after vet upon vet, and drug upon drug (and also some acupuncture and chiropractic), we had to take him to Orlando (3 hours north) for an MRI. Fortunately, greyhounds Ivy, TK and Baby just moved back into town so he'll have some friends to lounge around with in a couple of weeks when he's permitted more movement.
We have a request, and it's an issue I've written about a handful of times but never had this particular question answered by readers: How do you talk with your vet--who is against feeding your dog vegan food--about your choice to do so? I'm fortunate to have a regular (non-specialist) vet who has no problem at all with a vegan diet for dogs.
One of those is vet bills, which of course aren't deductible, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't know the total. Tags: Activism Current Affairs Ethics Greyhound Matters Language. This necessary task is often illuminating as there are some expenses I'm reluctant to tally in my head as the year progresses. Do you agree with that?
He had a corn removed Thursday morning, left the vet looking just fine and happy to be rid of the pain, and by 5:00 pm yesterday, after we were told that he had a less than 5% chance of survival with days of intensive treatment, and after consulting friends who are vets, we decided to euthanize him. That's a far more common problem.
Greyhound skin is very thin. The greyhound people tell you that, not to mention it's pretty obvious. For these reasons, my vet had no problem with me stockpiling Vetsulin. The vets say that Charles' condition doesn't warrant another surgery, and that sometimes it takes a couple of years (!)
And after a $250 vet trip it became this--. Charles Hobson Booger, III has been to I believe 4 vets (some several times) and hasn't been able to use his back right leg for 5 months (and yes, atrophy has set in). Tags: Ethics Food and Drink Greyhound Matters. And so we ended up with this--. Thanks for all of the well wishes.
The life expectancy of greyhounds is 12-15 years. Then there's her hideous gum disease that has left her few remaining teeth in bad shape but without much to do for them (the vets won't touch them). We spent the end of 2004 and beginning of 2005 getting fired by vet after vet. There she is. She's our 62-pound miracle.
I alerted my regular (non-specialist) vet of this and though he didn't treat me like a crazy person, he didn't do any research, either. Last night, my vet called to update me. Just in case you were wondering what an 85-lb red fawn greyhound looks like from the back with a couple dozen acupuncture needles in him. And yes, that's Violet Rays taking up most of his acupuncture bed at the homeopath's office.) The needles between his toes were apparently not of the painless variety. I've had those. been there.
I somehow became the non-vet, go-to person regarding dogs and diabetes, I suppose due to my frequent blogging about Violet Rays (left), my greyhound who has been through diabetes, blindness (then cataract replacement), glaucoma and retina detachment. That was the best advice I got during that period six years ago.
Dr. Newest Vet sent this to me from yesterday's day at "camp" for Charles. Tags: Current Affairs Ethics Greyhound Matters Language. CharlesCamp1 from Mary Martin on Vimeo (which it looks like I'm going to have to upgrade to improve the picture). And great timing: between Jonathan Safran Foer and Thanksgiving.
With this in mind, gently feel your pet’s limbs and joints and always take them to a Vet should you have the smallest inkling that something is wrong. Your pet relies heavily on you to keep a watchful eye on their health as aches and pains in their joints can be mistaken for fatigue. Canine Hip Dysplasia. Ruby’s Pain Increased.
From and article by: Ms T Baker Co-ordinator, www.greytexploitations.com (which has that fabulous Racism=Speciesism=Sexism graphic on its front page) Dougie is the third greyhound in as many months – which we know of – to have been subjected to this kind of attack but sadly, he was the only one to survive.
