In India, f orensic tests helped establish guilt in the killing of 10 endangered lions. Between February and March 2007, 10 lions were killed by poachers in three different incidents at the Gir National Park (GNP) which houses 360 Asiatic lions, the only surviving population in the wild. The link was clearly established.

That would have tested out rental insurance policy! Yesterday morning, we were the first on scene when this pride of 12 Lions was spotted by my wife. They were laying down to nap after a long day of doing what ever Lions do at night. NOTE: A quick update on this story, we have moved into the park for a few days.

The Big Five–lion, leopard, African buffalo, elephant, and rhinoceros–are impressive, but my heart lies with the patterned mammals, giraffes and zebras. I was not on one of those lucky groups, but I did get to see a Secretarybird on my Eastern South Africa trip.) Sadly, we weren’t able to join them or the leopard.
