I've been reading a lot about threatened elephants and primate populations in Africa and wondered about lions. Kenya's lion population has dropped from an estimated 2,749 in 2002 to 2,280 in 2004 and probably just 2000 individuals in 2009. Tags: africa Kenya lion endangered species. Washington wildlife officials say eight sea lions have been found dead in the Puget Sound region in recent weeks — all apparently shot. KING-TV reports that both the state Department of Fish and Wildlife and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are investigating the deaths.

Efforts have been made to return Mission Bay to its wildlife roots which can be witnessed from the Kendall-Frost Marsh Preserve on the northwest corner with several agencies working to replant and manage for wildlife, including the Ridgway’s Rail. They are not necessarily the biggest African animals, but represented those that were considered a real hunter’s worthy prey or “game” – the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhinoceros, Leopard and king of the jungle, the Lion (which of course doesn’t inhabit jungle but savanna!). In India, f orensic tests helped establish guilt in the killing of 10 endangered lions. Between February and March 2007, 10 lions were killed by poachers in three different incidents at the Gir National Park (GNP) which houses 360 Asiatic lions, the only surviving population in the wild. Great wildlife preserves, reserves and parks exist for a number of reasons. It’s the only park I have ever been to that not only have I seen all five of the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, African Buffalo, White Rhino and African Elephant) in, but seen them all on the same day.
