I had read that this was not possible since the 2X raised the f stop by two-stops making it a 300 f/8. In this particular case this combination raised the f stop to 8, as expected, but the camera was able to focus. I tested this combination extensively and found that the 7D would focus but only under good light conditions.
“I don’t know anyone else crazy enough to try 12s,” my friend answered when told that I am about to test NL Pure 12×42. With such a background, my decision to test the new birding frontier of Swarovski 12×42 extra-wide FOV binoculars didn’t appear strange at all – to me, at least. What do you think? Are 12s right for birding?
When I saw the NL Pure in a webinar for the first time, immediately – before the webinar ended, I asked my Swarovski sales rep for a pair to test. I kept them in my backpack until yesterday, didn’t want to hold them, to get any impressions… I wanted to test them as a tabula rasa (a clean slate). And today I did.
The morning I first tested them was filled with migrating flocks of European Bee-eaters and their constant bubbling voices. One bird was flying towards us and, just prior to avoiding us, only slightly raised its head (showing us its yellow throat) before picking up an insect in mid-air. Still, testing binoculars on a bright sunny day?
I do not claim to have the answer, but I think it is certainly worthwhile to raise the question: Why, exactly, all over the civilized world, in virtually every major city, are apes in prison? Like other mammals, they are capable of strong emotions. They have certainly committed no crimes.
Aptly called the tube-nosed birds, on account of their raised and highly visible nostrils, these species are able to hone in on oceanic food from several miles away, based on smell alone. I remember watching a David Attenborough episode once where he tested the theory that new world vultures could locate carcasses by smell alone.
The article talks about health and safety, but mentions nothing about whether these products are animal-tested. It doesn't even raise the issue as an eco-concern. Now, it may be that none of these brands are tested on animals (certainly not Sheila McCartney's Care right?),
In a recent study , a team of French researchers set out to test whether a drone’s color, speed, and angle of approach affected different groups of birds. This raises the question of whether or not drones can cause serious harm to birds. So far, there aren’t any reports of bird deaths caused by drones.
Now nearing 50 and duly lost in a mid-life crisis, Dragan Simic took to birding rather late – only half a lifetime ago, after successfully testing his inadequate skills in other life threatening activities, such as rock climbing and vertical caving. Raising and lowering its head, like stretching. Humbly, we approach on foot.
In the unending quest to find a kindred animal rights soul amongst my current friends, I ventured into animal testing territory with three friends over lunch this week (two guys and a woman). Most of their testing is repetitive, useless, and/or designed to create clones of drugs whose patents are about to run out.
The following year, having tested his employer’s indulgence still further, Chapin was back in the Congo, where, from a forest mining camp east of Stanleyville (now Kisangani), he succeeded in obtaining several specimens of what he was to name the ‘Congo Peacock’ (Afropavo congensis, and now also known as the Congo Peafowl).
That kicked off our One-Eyed Project – we fly and test all one-eyed raptors, and it continues to this day.”. “I’ve I raised them, banded them and released them back to their colony site that summer. Last year he came back to our area with a female. They stayed all winter, then left again.
A campaign was recently launched by the Nordic Society for Invention and Discovery to raise funds for the purpose of designing a specific device that the organization refers to as “No More Woof.” However, the concept is scientifically sound and initial tests showed substantial promise.
Shark Attack Experiment: LIVE will feature a team of free-divers and conservationists putting their safety on the line to separate myth from reality and dispel negative myths about sharks while raising public awareness about shark species which are being driven to extinction. But what other factors lead to these potentially fatal encounters?
2) If you live in Los Angeles, you are probably more aware of the goings-on around the panel discussion that will involve Dr. Ray Greek and members of the Pro-Test community at UCLA. Here's "An Open Letter from Dr. Ray Greek on the Feb.
I’m extremely grateful to Paul for taking the initiative in raising awareness of this NWR campaign. You may even have some profound insights that need to be shared in this public forum. His underlying point should be well taken by all of us: Birders and bird-educators could have an impact on the future of the Refuge System.
It’s no coincidence that the two species that pass Hare’s pointing test also share a profound cross-species bond. But scientists had carried out few studies to test those beliefs–until now. Kaminski put Rico to a rigorous test and confirmed that the dog could learn names for more than 200 toys, balls and other items.
where 10 billion animals are raised and slaughtered needlessly for food each year, Regan's books remain as relevant today as when they were first published. Each of us can help bring an end to these terrible things by not eating animals, not wearing animals, not purchasing products tested on animals, and not consuming animal products.
But you can easily test for technical skills by asking them to complete a project. Granting this request could raise issues of fairness. This focus marks a shift from when hiring emphasized college degrees or years of experience. Of course, candidates might stretch the truth about their skills.
Some of the lazier Common Moorhens apparently try to pass the arduous work of raising their chicks on to other species -a paper describes how Little Bitterns are utilized as surrogate parents. I am giving them the typical consultant answer: It depends. Seek geese in meadows and mudflats, but avoid them in paddy fields ( source ).
This non-technical book is a development from a series of lectures, tried and tested in numerous adult education courses given to non-specialists. Attempting to bluff the bear in believing that they were even bigger bears, Hoshino suggested raising their hands, to appear taller. From the behavioural point of view, what has happened?
Some of the first solid research pointing to a magnetic sense of some sort in birds was being produced at that time, and there were even people testing humans for a similar ability. Another question this raises has to do with migration itself. Those two questions are not mutually exclusive. Why migrate?
One day I literally saw her stomp, raise her voice and throw a book! From your next promotion or raise to a deal with a client or agreement with a vendor, it’s all negotiable. You wouldn’t take a test completely unprepared, so why would you begin negotiations without a plan? It was a lot like dealing with a child.
For example, share that you’re in a fundraising stage and are being cost-conscious, and you may get a better deal on a new tool than if you just shared news that your company just raised $100 million in capital. Test the water and make sure you can walk back from the bluff if you’re called out on it.
While other people might trade barbs or even turn to fisticuffs, I'd dig deep for the most hurtful thing I could say, in the fewest words, and deliver it without even raising my voice. The personality characteristics we were both deemed to have can all be found by observation as well as a 500+ question test.
Businesses that don’t hit their numbers also have a hard time raising financing. Automate A/B testing for e-commerce businesses. AI can also optimize A/B testing for e-commerce businesses, helping to understand which designs result in more conversions. That’s where AI comes to the rescue.
Even more than warbler, shorebird, and sparrow identification, this is a field that tests our endurance (gull watching is too often done in bitter cold, windy conditions), patience (even getting one good photo can take hours as you try to separate the ‘interesting gull’ from the flock), observational skills (so many plumages!)

In some cases, companies that previously only had field. This data shows where each salesperson is struggling.

It comes across as, ‘How are you supposed to relate to the concern I’m about to raise with you when you pretend that it doesn’t even exist in your world?’?”. Michael Mercer, a business psychologist and author, manages a team of workers for his company Mercer Systems LLC, a provider of pre-employment psychological testing.
Cows, domestic sheep, chickens and many others would not survive if they were not raised for human consumption, protected from malnutrition, disease and predators. And vegans must tread a very narrow line to avoid all sorts of deficiency diseases, while omnivores have very broad latitude in diet, as a survey of world cuisines makes evident.
FLAP is the Fatal Light Awareness Program, located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and this is how they raise awareness. But, yes, there are photographs of dead birds and x-ray images of the damage done to individual birds and photographs of the annual FLAP display, as shown below.
In the former, a female lays her fertilized egg in the nest of another species, in the hopes that her offspring will be raised by the unwitting hosts. In the latter, three or more adult individuals contribute to the raising of offspring. It turns out that the two strategies may be related. They looked at fairy-wrens and cuckoos.
Letters from Eden (Houghton Mifflin, 2006) will soon be followed by a memoir about the birds she has raised, healed, studied and followed throughout her life. From July 1 2008-June 30 2009 Ducks Unlimited raised 200.4 Hunters will be required to pass and ID test. 18 Responses to “Sandhill Crane Hunt in Kentucky?!
The templates can be discovered by raising birds in the absence of adult song, and they often sound very little like the normal final product. The bottom two are the songs of individuals raised in isolation, representing only their “built-in&# template unaffected by the experience of hearing normal adults. London: John Murray.
This week at 10,000 Birds, it’s all about how birds get around to bumping uglies (I’m talking about cloacas here), who they do it with, and how this actually leads to raising chicks…the birds and the bees of birds, you might say. Believe it or not, this is what “fidelity” looks like.
Those who only raise binoculars within their own backyards might also decide one day to venture further afield to look for the ones in the field guides that aren’t making it into their limited sphere of birding. Whether a birder is eager for eyefulls of common species or needs to test the birding Zen and.
Even in species where the total amount of time required to raise a nest full of little ones is very short, a significant percentage of time will be spent on this pre-mating period. This may be part of the reason we see birds involved in long and elaborate courtship.
Her narrator is Gabriel, 23, raised in Northern California by an American father and a Uruguayan mother. They agreed, Gabe reports with equanimity, that Alejandra would have an abortion, if the prenatal tests “revealed a significant probability that our gene overlap would limit the child’s prospects.”. What an ugly sentence that is.
It was organized to boost eBird use, raise funds for bird conservation, and just get more people out birding. When we scuff our knees and test the resiliency of our joints to peer into a bush at a Swainson’s Warbler in an urban park? When a new morning greets us with a symphony of wood-warblers, thrushes, and other spring birds?
After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age. (I I'm fairly sure that if I raise this topic it won't go over well, and outside of this issue there are no problems, but it's a big one for me. She jokes about it. She jokes about eating animals. And then I get this. I just turned 57.)
Wild birds I’ve raised from tiny, featherless orphans demonstrate attachment to me, as would be expected for any young creature with a surrogate mother, even a weird, long-limbed primate mother. Needless to say, this makes them quite pleasant to raise. I chalked it up to the fact that the three had been hand-raised from a young age.
