Being fully inoculated with AstraZeneca, I understood that with a digital vaccination certificate, I do not need any further tests to enter Costa Rica – something to recheck again!! Update: with the vaccination certificate, I need no testing. A field guide I’ll have to study on a long flight from Europe to San Jose.

Whether a birder is eager for eyefulls of common species or needs to test the birding Zen and. This is how we saw 300 plus species in three days on day trips out of the San Jose area and it’s only one of several options: High and middle elevations. I like the thrill of the chase but also love studying whatever I find.

This beauty is fairly common in cloud forest, even on the volcanic slopes that overlook the urban conglomeration known as San Jose. Also a relief after trudging through rainforest and testing the sweat-wicking characteristics of field clothes on the Pacific coast. Some call it the Blue-throated Toucanet.

Many gringos make their way to Baja California Sur every year, although the majority are probably heading to Cabo San Lucas to party and test the human limit of tequila endurance. For years I heard the estero at San Jose del Cabo was the place to go to see Belding’s Yellowthroat, another Baja endemic.
